And then my head exploded!
New season of The Guild started today!
I was recently introduced to Workaholics (Ok, people had been telling me for a year to watch it and I finally got around to it!). Now I feel it’s my duty to tell all of you to watch it!
Give it a chance….it’s good.
Also is it weird that I think Blake it attractive? Yea, please don’t judge me.

This is the continuing story of Abby and Mark. This volume contains Mark looking for the perfect way to propose, Abby swallowing her pride for the perfect wedding dress and it all ends with a wedding unlike any other.
THOUGHTS: This is one of those quick and easy reads. Nothing to strenuous or thought provoking. I loved getting to see the rest of Mark and Abby’s story; their journey to Happily Ever After. I like that Zahler pays homage to the entire genre of superheros.
Glad that we finally got to see some actual super villain fighting, with the Crusader getting kidnapped. In the previous volumes the crime fighting aspect has always taken a back seat. We also get to see that Abby isn’t helpless. That girl can take care of herself!
side note: I sure do love the references to various TV shows I’ve watched. There were several Battlestar Galactica mentions, a Gilmore girls one and books by Richard Castle were a nice touch.
ROMANCE: Yep, this entire book is one giant love story.
DARK-O-METER: [1 being Disney, 10 being The Shining] 0 – Even the kidnapping stuff wasn’t the least bit scary. Which I think is what Zahler is going for.
TIME SPENT: Less than an hour.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: Who would I recommend this to?
This entire comic book series might be better suited for the Sunday Paper comics section. I guess anyone who was a faithful reader of Archie might also like this bubble gum take on some classics.
Jason Bateman made my week/life by posting these on twitter:
But then it got even better when he posted one showing they are actually shooting!
Yes, that is Adam and Anders from Workaholics!
Life just got a little sweeter.
Ugh! Sorry, it took me so long to write this. I wish I had a legitimate excuse, like work or something. But the truth is I’ve been spending every free minute soaking up the sun. Sorry….?
Oh SDCC, you make me happy. Let’s follow along with the original list of goals I wanted to accomplish and see what actually got done.

Not to mention it was totally worth getting to see unreleased footage of upcoming episodes and get a chance to properly mourn the loss of the Ponds (UGH! I know they have to leave, but it was so sad). The chemistry of the three of them is just as evident in real life as it is on the screen.
Also, not on the list but just as important, the Nerdist podcast live! It featured John Barrowman, who was funny and pretty raunchy. And this happened on my way down to San Diego:
My 15 millisecond brush with fame! When I told non-SDCC goers this happened I got a lot of blank looks. But it was still pretty cool and totally made forgetting the tickets not as bad as originally anticipated!
Overall, SDCC was everything I thought it would be and more. I met so many wonderful people, got to sit in on some pretty amazing panels and most importantly I felt at home! Hopefully I can go back next year!
I’m off to SDCC!
Follow me on twitter (@bluepanelgirl) if you want to hear about my adventures!
Here are a few of my goals for SDCC:
1. Meet Felicia Day
2. Venture Bros. panel
3. Brave Hall H on Sunday for Doctor Who
4. Meet Felicia Day
5. Get lots of pictures with people wearing awesome costumes/witty t-shirts
Wish me luck!
I decided to read Love and Capes based on this review by Erica at 6’7″ and Green. She clearly knows her comic book stuff and her review of Love and Capes made me want to read it right away!
Story and art by Thom Zahler
Love and Capes is the story of Abby, a bookstore owner and her superhero boyfriend, The Crusader. In the first volume Abby finds out who Mark, her boyfriend, really is and it follows the couple as they try to adjust to each others lives. There are superhero best friends, superhero ex-girlfriends and a snarky, yet awesome sister. This series is a parody of the entire superhero genre so you get to see glimpses of your favorite superheros.
THOUGHTS: This was such a light, fun easy read! I’m a sucker for anything Superman. I faithfully watched Smallville, own all the Superman movies and am extremely excited they are making another one. So I wasn’t surprised when I liked the Crusader, what surprised me was how much I love Abby!
Not that I don’t like Lois Lane but Abby kind of blows her out of the water. She owns a bookstore (only my dream job), likes English to be used properly (hopefully she never reads this blog, because English and I don’t always see eye to eye) and has a sister for a best friend (having two older sisters means this kind of story line always makes me happy). As you can see, she pretty much rocks. All the responses, questions and requests she made of the Crusader after finding out his true identity were totally things I would have done (picking up the pizza in a different city, yes please). I would totally want to be Abby’s friend and not just because she is dating a superhero. I can’t wait to see where this goes.
side note: I love the Battlestar Galactica ‘Frak’ reference during Charlotte’s date. Any fan of BG is a friend of mine!
ROMANCE: This whole book is one giant romance, which is probably why I loved it so much. I loved following this sweet not at all dark version of a story I’ve known for so long.
DARK-O-METER: [1 being Disney, 10 being The Shining] 1 or negative 1. This is a Disney level of comic. Nothing scary, nothing dark, just pure tongue-in-cheek. It was campy, fun and easy to read.
TIME SPENT: Less than an hour.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: Who would I recommend this to?
Any fan of the Superman/Lois Lane story would get a recommendation from me.
I would also give this to my ”I-would-never-read-comic-books-but-love-young-adult-books” female friends. This might be great intro in to the comic book world.
I probably would not recommend this to any diehard Superman/comic book fans. It isn’t at all hardcore, so I doubt they would be in to it.
I could tell my whole life story through daily pictures of my nightstand.

[I'll warn you right now, there are spoilers below. Especially if you haven't read the first volume. So beware! You've been warned.]

The second volume continues where the first left off, with Tom Taylor in court for an arraignment before being extradited to France to stand trial. It basically follows him as he tries to figure a way out of the entire mess.
THOUGHTS: I actually liked this one better than the first. It felt like more of the story was actually happening not just being set up. I was pretty annoyed from the beginning when I saw him in the court room that Lizzy hadn’t come forward about what she knew. I know later we find out she did what she thought was best, but until that point I was frustrated. One word and he would have been set free! Ugh.
The whole Frankenstein’s monster story line was pretty awesome. It got my imagination going as far as where the plot is going. Can he read things in to existence (isn’t that already a book?)? Or is it that they have always been real he is just bring them in to our world? And then there was the whole Nazi thing, so can he bring history to life? I don’t know, but I can’t wait to find out.
The interjected story of the prison governor and his family really got to me. I might relate more to his daughter than I would ever care to admit.
Also, the final story, with the Beatrix-Potter-like character, took the entire series to another level dark wise. It was pretty creepy and gave me even more things to think about (Wilson can write real people in to a story? What?! Who is this guy?)
ROMANCE: [Yes, yes, I'm a girl and romance is important to me] I’m still betting on Lizzy as the romantic interest (if there even is one) but nothing at all happened in this volume. Most of the time I was annoyed by her actions, so I didn’t even care.
DARK-O-METER: [1 being Disney, 10 being The Shining] 6 – Anytime you have to factor in Nazis and their propaganda techniques, the Dark-O-Meter has to go up significantly. Plus, the fake Beatrix Potter girl really was creepy (little girls in pigtails talking about the “scary things” is always going to be unnerving, am I right?).
TIME SPENT: Less than 45 minutes. Flew through it faster than the first volume.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: Who would I recommend this to?
To anyone who had read the first volume.
